The shloka is a couplet, each of 16 syllables.It is composed of two lines of eight syllables.Shloka is a category of verse line developed from the Vedic poetic metre.The epics, Mahabharata and Ramayana are written in shlokas.

The shloka metre is also embedded in the Bhagavad Gita, Smritis, the Puranas, Sushruta Samhita and Charaka Samhita.Shlokas are composed is rhythmic metre and dedicated to various Gods.On chanting the shlokas, one gets complete peace of mind and relaxation.
