Ekadashi/ Ekadasi, is an auspicious day dedicated to Lord Vishnu.It is the eleventh day of every lunar fortnight,in traditional Hindu calendar.Every month of Hindu calendar has two auspicious days of Ekadashis.The first Ekadashi occurs when the moon is nearest to earth and the second Ekadasi occurs when the moon is farthest from the earth.

The Ekadashi day has influence on the sea.It is the indicator of the high and low tides of the sea.Each Ekadasi has a unique name,which is observed as a day of fasting and devotion.Fasting on Ekadashis is considered highly divine,auspicious.It is also considered one of the ways to attain Moksha (Salvation).

How to fast on Ekadasi

* Take a sacred bath in the morning.

* Worship Lord Vishnu.

* Total fasting requires abstinence from food and water for 24 hours.

* Partial fasting requires consumption of only fruits and milk.

* One can also take only a single meal on the Dasami day,the previous day of Ekadasi.
