15 Home Remedies on Sinus

The small cavities in the skull, which are normally filled with air, are called paranasal sinuses and they work to produce mucus and throw it out of the body, by grabbing the bacteria, pollutants and dust particles.

When the nasal passage gets swollen up due to any allergy, pollution, viral infection, the sinus problem starts, since the flow of mucus and air is stopped, starting the bacterial infection. Sinus can be "Acute Sinusitis" or "Chronic Sinusitis".

Acute sinusitis remains for 8 - 10 days, which leads to headache, thick mucus, nasal congestion, breathing problems and facial pains. Chronic sinusitis remains for longer time as much as 3 months or more.

15 Home Remedies for Sinus

1 * Ginger *

The ginger has many vital components like pungent phenols and volatile oils, which are considered to be useful expectorant. Hence the use of ginger gives breathing relief and comfort from blocked sinus.
Use: Take about 1" Ginger piece and grate it. Pour boiling water on it in 1 cup and allow to steep for about 10 minutes. Strain and add 1 tsp honey. Consume the mixture for relief from sinusitis.

2 * Garlic *

Garlic is a best antibiotic, which can protect good bacteria while killing the bad ones. Have Garlic cloves raw and crushed, since it activates its anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal component allicin.
Use: Soak 5 garlic cloves in 1/2 cup of water for about 10 minutes and crush the garlic cloves and make a paste. Inhale while breathing deeply to get relief from sinus infection.

3 * Fenugreek seeds *

Fenugreek herb has anti-inflammatory properties which gives relief from sinus.
Use: Mix 3 tsp of fenugreek seeds with 1 cup of water and boil it till it is concentrated to 50 %. Filter and consume the tea 3 times every day till you get relieved from sinus problem.

4 * Mustard seeds *

Mustard seeds, which have anti-fungal properties, contain heat in, that relieves from congestion.
Use: Mix 1 tsp of mustard seeds with 1 glass of water and boil it till it concentrates to 50 %. After it is warm, pour 3 - 4 drops of this into your nostrils. which will clear off the nasal passages.

5 * Mustard oil *

Mustard oil is a natural antimicrobial, which is effective for a variety of bacteria such as - shigella, salmonella, listeria and staphylococcus.
Use: Pour 2 drops of mustard oil into your nostrils. Also 2 drops of mustard oil can be taken on palm and drawn this up through nostrils. This opens up the blocked nose and give relief.

6* Cumin seeds *

Cumin seeds reduce mucus formation and cures the swelling by relieving from sinusitis.
Use: Dry roast 1 tsp cumin seeds and grind them to powder. Add this cumin powder to honey and stir it well. Take this paste once everyday.

7* Black Cumin seeds *

Black cumin seed oil contains vital components and has lot of powerful properties. It gives relief from sinus.
Use: Take 1/2 teaspoon of Black cumin seed oil in hot water and inhale the steam to get relief.

8* Cinnamon *

Cinnamon is anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiseptic and antiviral, which used to cure respiratory problems since many years. The chemicals in cinnamon fight the harmful bacteria which cause the sinus infection. It gives relief from inflamed sinus that narrows the air passages narrow and leads to breathing difficulties.

Use: Prepare a mixture of 1/2 tsp of cinnamon powder and 1 tbsp of honey and have this daily to clear blocked sinuses.
A paste of 1-2 tsp of cinnamon powder and little water can be applied all over forehead and nose to clear off the blockage in sinuses.

9* Special mix *

A diffuser of cinnamon oil with some other essential oils give instant relief from nasal congestion and sinus headache.
USe: Take water in a pan and boil it. Stop further boiling and add 2 drops of cinnamon oil, 2 drops of clove oil and 2 drops of thyme oil to it. Take a towel over your head and the pan and inhale the steam for some time. Practice this 3 times every day.

10* Horseradish *

The antibiotic horseradish due to its high sulfur content, is used for curing sinus infection since many years. It is a safe herb for internal and external usage, which should be used in small quantities.
Use: Grate horseradish root and take 1/4 tsp of it. Keep it in your mouth and hold it there till all its taste is gone. Then swallow the remains in your mouth. This will relieve you from the sinus infection.

11* Onion *

Onion is rich in sulfur content and also contains quercetin, which has antihistamine and anti-inflammatory properties that makes it effective in clearing congested sinuses.
Use: Slice the onions and add them to boiling water for about 5 minutes and inhale the steam. Onion pieces can be added to the hot water to make a clear onion soup to sip it, which helps in clearing off the sinus.

12* Apple Cider Vinegar *

Apple Cider Vinegar, which is rich in pottasium, having antimicrobial properties, breaks up the mucus in the body to give you relief from chronic sinusitis. It also helps in getting rid of the runny nose and sinus infection.
Use: Take 2 tbsp of apple cider vinegar, 1tbsp of raw lemon juice and 8 ounces of water and add 1tbsp of honey to it. Consume this mixture 3 times every day and get instant relief.

Also mix 2-3 teaspoons of vinegar with a glass of hot water and inhale the steam to get relief.

13* Echinacea *

Echinacea herb which has strong antibacterial properties, is an effective remedy for sinus infection. Echinacea strengthens the immune system, hence it is a right way to kill the bacteria or virus.
Use: Boil 1 glass of water for about 15 mins and add 1 tsp of Echinacea to it. Strain it and drink the tea about 5 cups every

14* Oregano oil *

The two components, carvacrol and thymol of Oregano are of great therapeutic use, which make it antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, antimicrobial, antioxidant, antispasmodic and antiseptic. It is very effective which fight off infections, pains and inflammation.
Use: Mix 2 drops of oregano oil with 2 tsp of water and keep this under your tongue. Also a mixture of oregano oil drops and olive oil can be rubbed over the forehead and nose to open up the blocked sinuses and nasal passages. Additionally 2-3 drops of oregano oil can be added to hot water to inhale the steam for good relief.

15* Jaggery *

Mix ginger powder with jaggery and prepare tablets of it weighing about 5 grams each.Take these tablets 2 times every day.
