10 Remedies for Indigestion & Gas - Babies
1 - Burping
The breastfed infants must burp after every feed. They should not lie down after they have full feed. Take your baby in upright position, pat her back and carry her for sometime.
2 - Cycling legs
Cycling the legs of baby few times a day keep the gas away. The leg movements relieve them from gas and relieves the pain if any.
3 - Massage
Take warm mustard oil and give a gentle massage to the baby daily. It calms down the digestive system and strengthens the bones.Babies get full relief.
4 - Heat fermentation
Soak a soft cotton towel in warm water, squeeze out excess water.Please check the temperature of towel by placing in your hand first. Place the towel on the baby's stomach. This eases the gastric pain and baby feels relieved.
5 - Ajwain water
Boil water with a handful of ajwain (carom seeds) and set aside. Feed this water to baby at fixed intervals. This remedy is best for infants of 6 months and above.
6 - Cumin
Cumin contains a component called thymol which is helps the pancreas to produce digestive enzymes. In a glass of water, boil 1/2 teaspoon of cumin seeds and feed this water at regular intervals to baby to relieve from gastric problem.
7 - Ginger
Ginger reduces stomach gas and flatulence. By adding ginger to your baby's food, it eases the digestion process, especially after 9 months of age.
8 - Cardamom (Elaichi)
Elaichi contains minerals like potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron and C vitamin. It reduces the air in the stomach and accelerates the digestion process.
Mix a few grains of elaichi in baby food.
9 - Asafoetida (Hing)
Dissolve a pinch of asafoetida in warm water and make a paste. Apply this paste around the infant's navel. This is very effective and relieves the baby from gas problem.
For babies over 1 year old, Asafoetida can be added in small quantity in daal, khichdi or other baby food. For kids of 5 years, you can add a pinch of hing in buttermilk.
10 - Ani seed (Sounf)
Ani seed prevents flatulence and relieves bloating.Take 1 litre of water and boil it by adding 1 tsp of aniseeds to it.Heat it till it concentrates to half.Cool it down and feed it to baby 2 - 3 times every day.

Indigestion, medically known as dyspepsia, is a very common problem for all and it is a gastrointestinal problem all complaint about. Indigestion and gas are problems due to secretion of the digestive juices in our stomach. The common symptoms of indigestion are - bloating, belching, burning sensation and nausea. When the acid in the stomach starts irritating the the stomach lining, one experiences burning sensation in chest and stomach. However indigestion and gas may be the result of over eating or consuming spicy or oily food. 11 - Coriander (Dhaniya)
Treating indigestion is one out of many common health issues. Coriander helps in curing the stomach problem and relieves from the burning sensations and indigestion. Add roasted coriander seeds to 1/2 glass of buttermilk.Also use 1 tsp of dried leaves and 1 cup of boiling water.
12 - Fennel seeds
During the problem of gas and indigestion due to spicy or fatty food,fennel seeds helps to cure it. The oil contained in fennel seeds reduces nausea and controls flatulence. Dry, roast and grind fennel seeds And make its powder. Consume 1/2 tsp of this powder along with water, 2 times every day.
13 - Black Pepper
Black pepper increases the flow of gastric juices and helps in digestion giving relief. Mix powdered black pepper with crushed jaggery and take with buttermilk to cure indigestion.Also prepare a mixture of equal quantities of black pepper fine powder, dried mint leaves, ginger powder and coriander seeds and consume 1 tsp twice a day.
14 - Cloves
Clove, the dried flower buds of Eugenia aromatic, has various medicinal and culinary properties. Cloves can increase gut motility and gastrointestinal secretions, helping in digestion and curing gas and indigestion problems. Pieces of cloves can be directly consumed or clove oil can be used to get rid of gas and indigestion problems.
15 - Apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar provides our stomach with the much required acid. It can be taken with water and honey to get best results. Mix 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in 1 cup water and add 1 teaspoon honey and consume this solution 2 - 3 times every day.
16 - Buttermilk
Buttermilk is easier to digest than milk and contains more lactic acid. Buttermilk is always good to keep yourself cool in hot summers and drinking up a glass of buttermilk is relief to the stomach.
17 - Baking soda
Baking soda is an effective antacid to fight excessive acid in your stomach. The soda neutralizes the excess hydrochloric acid in the stomach forming salt and water. Mix 1/2 tsp of baking soda in 1/2 glass of water and drink the solution on an empty stomach. It gives quick relief from gas and indigestion.
18 - Herbal Tea
Herbal tea may be taken after a heavy meal which works effectively in easing digestion. Mint, raspberry and blackberry tea can be taken after a heavy meal to reduce indigestion. Peppermint and chamomile work as great stomach pain relievers too. Dip a herbal tea bag - fresh mint leaves or dried chamomile flowers, in warm water and enjoy the warm herbal tea.
