Causes of Gall Stones

Gall bladder is a small soft, flimsy, bag-like organ located under the liver.There are pieces of solid material formed in the gallbladder due to various reasons.One may not even know the existence of gall stones until they block a bile duct, causing severe pain. There are two main types of gallstone are are -

1 - Cholesterol stones, which are usually yellow-green in color and very common kind.

2 - Pigment stones, which are smaller and darker. They are formed of bilirubin, that comes from bile, a fluid your liver makes and your gallbladder stores.

1 - Apple Juice and Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple has properties to dissolve gall stones if taken in the forms of juice and apple cider vinegar. Apple has malic acid present in it which helps in softening the gallstone and vinegar stops the liver from forming cholesterol which is the cause for formation of gall bladder stones. Apple also prevents the re-forming of gall stones and also subsides the pain.

Use: Mix 1 glass of Apple Juice with 1 tbsp of Apple cider vinegar- 1 tbsp and consume once evry day by stirring it well.

2 - Pear Juice

Pears contain pectin which binds to cholesterol-filled gallstone to flush the stones out of body. As per old belief, the pear juice is said to dissolve the gallstone.

Use: Mix 1/2 glass of pear juice with hot water, add 2 tbsp of honey to it and stir it well. Consume this mixture 3 times every day.

3 - Beetroot, Cucumber and Carrot Juice

The combination of beetroot, cucumber and carrots is very effective as remedy for gallbladder. Beets have properties to clean and strengthen the gallbladder and liver. Beet also cleans the colon and blood. Cucumber helps in detoxifivation of liver as well as gallbladder with its high water content.The carrot juice is very helpful since it has C-vitamin and other rich nutrients.

Use: Tkae out juice of 1 beet root, 1 cucumber and 4 carrots. Add ginger to it and stir it well.Have this juice 2 timees every day.

4 - Milk Thistle

The herb, Milk thistle is a traditional natural remedy for gallstone as well as detoxifying liver which has been widely used.It is useful in shrinking gallstone and subside the bladder acute pain.

Use: Take crushed milk thistle leaves and seeds in a muslin bag and place in hot water.Add honey for taste.Steep for about 5 minutes and have it 2-3 times a day.

5 - Dandelion

The dandelion Leaves help in boosting bile excretion from the liver which detoxifies it and metabolises the fat. Dandelion herb is good for liver which helpsgallbladder in its functioning.

Use: Take 1 tbsp of dandelion dried leaves and add 1 cup of hot water to it.Cover it and steep for about 5 minutes. Add honey for taste purpose and have it 3 times a day.

6 - Peppermint

Peppermint oil stimulates the flow of bile and other digestive juices which is helpful in digestion. It has the component terpene which dissolves the gallstone.You can have peppermint tea made with mint leaves or peppermint oil capsules.Peppermint tea is very effective during the gallbladder attack, since it helps in relaxing spasms and gives relief from severe pain.

Use: Take 1 cup of water and boil it. Add crushed fresh 1 tbsp of mint leaves to it.Steep for 5 mins, cool it down and add honey for taste and consume once a day.

7 - Psyllium

Psyllium is a very good source of soluble fibers and C-vitamin, that bind to the cholesterol in bile and help prevent gallstone formation.Psyllium also prevents constipation which causes gallstone formation.

Use: Mix i tbsp of psyllium with 1 cup of water and stir it well.Have this mixture before going to bed.

8 - Lemon Juice

Lemon juice stops your liver from forming cholesterol.

Use: Make a mixture of 30 fresh lemon juice, 30 ml olive oil and 5 gms of garlic paste.Take this mixture daily on empty stomach for a month.

9 - Carrot Juice

Carrot is an effective treatment for gallstone.Carrots contain high levels of vitamin C, potassium, phosphorus, sodium and also B complex. It aids in the release of bile and excessive accumulated cholesterol.

Use: Crush the carrot and mix with water making the juice,Consume it every day.

10 - Castor Oil

Castor oil contains an anti-inflammatory property that helps to neutralize the inflammation and minimizes the pain and also reduces the number of gallstone in the gallbladder.

Use: Warm gently the castor oil for few minutes.Soak the cheesecloth in it and remove the excess oil.Place this over the gallbladder area and cover with a plastic sheet.Then gently press a hot water bag on it for about 1 hr to get relief from the acute pain.

11 - Red Bell Pepper

Red bell pepper contains about 90 mgs of C vitamin which is essential for prevention of gallstone. It is adviced to eat a single red bell pepper every day.

12 - Wine

Wine is effective in preventing gallstone as per studies. Drinking half a glass of wine during gallstone pain gives relief within 30 minutes. Drinking half a glass of wine daily reduces the gallstone attacks by nearly 30 %.


* Exercise regularly.
* Avoid constipation.
* Reduce extra weight.
* Avoid fatty foods.
* Drink 10 glasses of water everyday.
* Have C-vitamin, lemon juice.
* Instead of 2 main coarses, have 4 to 5 smaller meals.
* 2 cups coffee everyday.
* Use herbs that stimulate liver and gallbladder - turmeric, dried ginger, black pepper etc.
