10 Home Remedies for Asthma
1 * Fenugreek Seeds
Honey is very healthy for therespiratory system and he ginger has anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties which are beneficial in curing asthma.
Use: Add 2 tbsp of fenugreek seeds to 1 litre of water and simmer for 1/2 an hour. After 30 mins strain the water.
Make paste and juice.Later add 2 tsps of it to the mixture. Then mix 1 tsp honey with it and mix well.
Drink a glass of this fenugreek, ginger, and honey treated water every morning.
2 * Gooseberry, Amla
The vitamin C source indian gooseberry or amla is a fine antioxidant a great relief when you get asthma attack.The vitamin A of it cures the respiratory tract infections. Gooseberry has anti-inflammatory properties which soothes the tensed air passage giving you relief.
Use: Prepare a paste of 1 gooseberry and mix 1 tsp honey with this paste. Have this every morning to be relieved the whole day long.
3 * Drumstick leaves
The leaves of the drumstick trees are used to make a soup. As per studies drumsticks are very effective in the treatment of asthma. Prepare a soup with drumstick leaves and have it once everyday to cure your asthma.
Use: Add handful of drumstick leaves to about 200 ml of water and boil for 5 minutes.Then cool it for sometime. You can also mix salt, pepper, and/or 1/2 tsp limejuice to give some taste to the soup. Have this soup once every day.
4 * Bitter Gourd
This is one of the very old Ayurvedic remedies for asthma, which is fast and effective.
a) Grind the bitter gourd root and make a paste of it.
Take 1 tsp of bitter gourd root paste and add it to 1 tsp of honey and have it once a day before going to bed.
b) Crush the basil leaves to get 1 tsp of its juice and have the bitter gourd root paste mixed basil leaves juice every night before going to bed.
5 * Garlic
Garlic has been used as a very powerful medicinal herb sice so many years. Asthma can be cured at initial stages with the help of garlic. Garlic is very effective in healing asthma since it contains phosphorous and sulfur amino acids .
Use: Add the garlic cloves to milk. Now boil the 30 ml of milk and add 8-10 garlic cloves to it. Consume this milk once daily.
6 * Licorice root
Licorice root, which is used in traditional Chinese medicine, is very effective for treating asthma. The glycrrhizins and flavonoids in it relieves from bronchial spasms and inflammation of the air passage, which causes the asthma attack. Licorice has antibacterial and antiviral properties, which cures lung infections. Licorice acts as an expectorant which loosens up the mucus in the respiratory tract and helps to breathe smoothly.
Use: Add 2 tbsp dried licorice root and 1 stick of cinnamon to 2 cups of water and boil for about 10-15 minutes. Collect this in a jar after straining it.
Till it is very hot, inhale the steam coming out from the jar. After it is cooled down, consume it 3 times every day.
Caution: B.P. patients should consult the doctor for thi treatment.
7 * Safflower seeds
Safflower, which has linoleic acids, acts as an expectorant that reduces spasms by making the firm sputum or the mucus in your airways soft, giving a great relief.
Use: Prepare a mixture of 1/2 tsp of safflower seeds powder and 1t tbsp of honey. Have this 2 times every day.
Caution: Consult the physician before adopting this remedy.
8 * Mint
Mint has anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, which soothe the respiratory tract by giving relief from asthma. It acts as an expectorant and expels phlegm out of your system.
Use: Crush 8 mint leaves and 5 basil leaves and add them to 2 cups of boiling water. Let it boil till the leaves become dark brown in colour. Then add about 2 cm piece of ginger and 5 crushed pepper corns to the boiled mixture. Stop heating and strain the mixture and add 1 tsp of honey to it. Till it is very hot, inhale it and later sip the mixture to get relief.
9 * Bishop's Weed
The herb, Bishop's weed, cures asthma by soothing muscle spasms that affect your bronchial airways. Since this acts as an expectorant, it gives good relief from dried up phlegm.
Use: Mix 1/2 tsp of Bishop's weed with 1 glass of buttermilk. Take this milk 2 times every day.
10 * Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)
ACV is a very old remedy for the treatment of asthma. During the problem of acid reflex, acid in the aesophagus may narrow down the air passage and lead to breathlessness.
Use: Take a bottle of ACV and shake well. Add 1 tbsp of ACV to 1 glass of water. Have this mixture slowly.
